Jasper Johns
0 through 9 is an oil painting on canvas by the American painter, sculptor and print maker Jasper Johns.
This image is very big and the colours used are red, blue and golden yellow. When I look at this image I can see numbers on top of each. He has used a layer effect to fit the numbers 0-9 to create this image. All of the numbers are in the center of the image and fill the whole canvas. When I look at this image the first number I can clearly see is the number 3 I think this is due to the shape of the number. I think the numbers have been put in order with 0 being first then 9 last.
The image to me would be tactile as oil paint is thick when applied to a canvas the brushes would create brush stroke. The colours are blended together showing different tones of the colours used this helps to create the abstract over look of his work.
0 through 9 was made by Johns in 1961 when he was living in New York. It is one of a series of twelve works by the artist.
